SMU Tennis Set To Host Second Tournament Of The Fall

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team will welcome Wichita State, Texas A&M, Wyoming, Sam Houston State and Tulsa to the SMU Tennis Complex for the Red and Blue Challenge from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.
This will be the Mustangs fourth tournament of the fall season and their second time hosting a tournament this season. Play will start on Friday in a duals format with Wichita State facing Texas A&M and Wyoming taking on Sam Houston State at noon before SMU plays Tulsa at 3:30 p.m. CT.
SMU last played at the ITA Texas Regional Tournament two weeks ago and it was highlighted by the singles play of Vaszilisza Bulgakova and doubles play of Macie Elliott and Mary Wright. Bulgakova went 3-1, reaching the round of 16 with Wright and Elliott also went 3-1 as a doubles pair, reaching the quarterfinals.
At the SMU Invite, freshman Ana Perez-Lopez shined in her first collegiate action going 3-0 to win her draw in singles and only dropping one doubles match with partner Dasha Sharapova. Sharapova also went 2-1 in doubles while partnered with Bulgakova at the SMU Invite.
The rest of the tournament's schedule for Saturday will be Wichita State vs. Sam Houston State and Tulsa vs. Texas A&M at noon with SMU taking on Wyoming at 3:30. Sunday action will start earlier with Texas A&M vs. Wyoming and Tulsa vs. Sam Houston State at 9 a.m. with SMU vs. Wichita State at noon.
The Red and Blue Challenge will be the last scheduled fall tournament for the Mustangs who will also host an alumni tournament later in November. For live updates during the tournament, follow SMU women's tennis on Twitter @SMUTennis.
