Nov 6 | Rowing
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's rowing team is set to compete in the 2015 Fall Invitational in Catoosa, Oklahoma at the Verdigris River. The Mustangs will take on Tulsa and Kansas and compete in four events, including the Varsity 4+, Varsity 2x and Varsity 1x on Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT., and the 8s and 4s on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
"We are looking forward to this last season race," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "We haven't seen Tulsa since conference last year and Kansas last April. This will give us a good indication of our training this fall and will help us determine if we need to change anything up between now and spring."
The teams will compete in a series of 4500 meter head to head events. Head style racing refers to events that involve shotgun starts and teams racing against the clock on courses approximately three miles long.
In the first fall competition this season, the Mustangs earned a pair of top-three finishes at the Head of the Brazos on Oct. 10. In the Novice 4+, the Ponies earned a second-place finish with a time of 24:38:754, three seconds faster than third-place finisher Baylor (27:28:324). The Mustangs also picked up another top-three finish in the Novice 8+ with a time of 22:39:500.
