Mustangs Host Creighton, Central Oklahoma To Open 2015

The Week Ahead...
The Mustangs begin the spring portion of their schedule with a home event versus Creighton and Central Oklahoma on Saturday at White Rock Lake. This is the first of four events to be held in Dallas. Action will kick off at 9 a.m. CT.
Mustangs Versus...
Creighton - The Mustangs swept Creighton at the SMU Invite during the 2013-14 season. SMU swept Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8 events. The 1st Varsity 8 crew of Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Allison Buchanan, Mackenzie Daly, Loni Albrecht, Chantelle Conley, Sydney Severson, Lauren Moore and Molly O'Connell clocked in at 7:02.40 to edge out CU. The 2nd Varsity 8 crew finished in a time of 7:10.38, while the Novice 8 crew finished in 7:42.65. SMU's Varsity 4 crew of Nikole Metz, Hanna Axene, Meghan Klein, Brittany Courteau and Amanda Esposito earned the victory in 8:03.37.
Central Oklahoma - SMU picked up a pair of victories in Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ races last season against UCO. It was the last home event for the Mustangs and the Varsity 8 crew left it all out on the lake. Maggie Jones, Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Loni Albrecht, Miranda Zsigmond, Sydney Severson, Chantelle Conley, Hanna Axene and Lauren Moore clocked in at 6:42.5 to defeat the Bronchos. The time was a season-best for the crew, who bested a previous time of 6:47.27. SMU's 2nd Varsity 8+ crew finished the 2k course in 7:04.3. In Varsity 4+ action, Moyra Tran, Jessica Clouse, Dominique Earland, Bailey Adams and Nikole Metz finished in 8:06.37 for the win.
Last Time Out...
Head of the Colorado - The Mustangs posted a pair of first-place finishes at the 2014 Head of the Colorado on Lady Bird Lake's 5,000-meter course on Oct. 25. The Mustangs produced top finishers in the Open Double Scull and the 1st Novice 8+.
SMU's top crew in the Women's Open Double Skull clocked in at 17:02.9 and was followed by a second-place Mustang crew that finished in 17:09.3. Out of eight total crews in the event, SMU also occupied the fourth and fifth spots with times of 17:44.4 and 17:49.5, respectively.
In Novice 8+, the Ponies earned their second victory of the season, coming off an impressive performance at the Head of the Oklahoma, with a time of 15:23.1. The time was 27 seconds faster than the runner-up crew from Texas.
The Mustangs also picked up two more top-three finishes with a runner-up performance in the Novice 4+ (18:47.3) and a third-place finish in the 2nd Novice 8+ (17:46.0).
Mustang Moody...
Sophomore Savannah Moody was invited to the US National Team ID Camp in Chula Vista, California, where the national body identifies possible rowers to compete on the U-23 National Team.
Moody competes in the stroke seat on the Mustangs' 1st Varsity 8+ crew. Following the 2013-14 season, she was named Second-Team All-Region by the College Rowing Coaches Association. During the fall portion of the 2014-15 schedule, Moody helped her crew to a fifth place finish at the Head of the Colorado, and a ninth place finish at the Head of the Oklahoma.
Last season, as a member of the same crew, she was part of four first-place finishes as well as three runner-up finishes. The crew posted its fastest time of the season with a 6:42.5 finish on April 26 against Central Oklahoma.
American Standout...
Junior Miranda Zsigmond, a native of Los Alamitos, California, represented SMU on the inaugural American Athletic Conference First-Team last season. Zsigmond spent the spring season as part of the Mustangs' Varsity 8+ crew, while also racing in Varsity 4+ races during the fall.
The Champ Is Here...
First-year rower Jackie Galloway earned a third-place finish at the US Open Taekwondo Championships, which took place Jan. 20-25 at the Orange County Convention Center. Galloway was also named the 2014 Female Athlete of the Year by USA Taekwondo.
In 2014, Galloway was a collegiate World Champion, Canadian and German Open Champion as well as a member of the U.S. National Team. Her success in 2013 was evident as she took National Championship honors in the United States, Costa Rica and Israel. She was also a Pan American Open Champion.
During the 2012 calendar year, Galloway was named an alternate for the London Olympics and won both Dutch and Swedish Open Championships. She also earned a bronze medal at the World Championship and US Open. In 2011, Galloway was a Pan American Games champion.
