DALLAS (SMU) -- Chinelo Odobulu tallied the match-winner for the SMU women's soccer team, as the Mustangs defeated Mississippi State, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Westcott Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs saw an offensive surge in the second frame, highlighted by Odobulu's goal. In the 55th minute, Lissi Lonsberry found herself with the ball just outside of the 18-yard box and eluded a pair of Bulldog defenders before slipping a through ball to Odobulu about 15 yards out. Odobulu collected the pass and slotted the shot by MSU's Tanya de Souza for the goal.
For SMU, Shannon Moroney went the distance in goal tallying three saves.
Five different SMU players registered shots, while the Mustang defense limited MSU to only three shots on goal out of 14 total chances.
This was the first of five spring matches for the Mustangs, who play host for four of them. Texas Woman's comes to Westcott Field on Thursday evening for a 7 p.m. CT match up. Admission is free.
