DALLAS -- Lissi Lonsberry scored a pair of goals, as the SMU women's soccer team defeated Texas Woman's University, 3-0, in spring action on Wednesday night at Westcott Field.
Claire Oates put the Mustangs on top in the 19th minute, hitting a strike from 25 yards out into the lower left corner. Lonsberry increased SMU's lead to two, capitalizing on a Chinelo Odobulu cross. Odobulu beat a defender to the endline and served a low ball into the box, which Lonsberry buried into the right side of the net.
The Mustangs carried the 2-0 lead into the break, outshooting the Pioneers, 7-1, in the opening half.
Lonsberry netted her second goal of the match in the 54th minute, firing a low, skipping shot into the left corner. Gabrielle Petrucelli recorded the assist.
Shannon Moroney recorded the shutout in net for SMU, tallying three saves. The Mustangs outshot TWU, 14-5, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Up next, the Mustangs host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. at Westcott Field. Admission is free.
