DALLAS -- The SMU women's tennis team, seeded fourth, will play fifth-seeded Memphis in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday, April 16 at 12 p.m. CT at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
SMU (15-6, 3-3 The American) and Memphis (9-13, 4-2 The American) met during the regular season on April 3 with the Tigers winning 4-0 in Memphis. Houston is the top-seeded team, while Tulane is second and Tulsa third. Houston, Tulane and Memphis are the Mustangs' three conference losses.
Last year, SMU fell to third-seeded and eventual champion USF, 4-0, in the quarterfinals in The American's inaugural championship. USF went on to defeat top seed Houston, 4-2, in the final.
SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis has won two of its last three matches, with both victories coming against conference opponents. The Tigers defeated SMU, 4-0, on April 3, before beating USF, 4-3, on April 4. Memphis then fell at Michigan in its season finale. Anki Wind is the Tigers' top singles player with a 17-13 overall record and an 11-8 mark in No. 1 singles. Wind and teammate Alyssa Hibberd are 11-3 in doubles and are ranked 43rd in the country.
Series History: SMU is 2-2 all-time versus Memphis. The Mustangs lost to the Tigers, 4-0, earlier this season.
