Mustangs Host Kansas On Saturday At White Rock Lake

The Week Ahead...
SMU will host its second of four events this spring when Kansas comes to White Rock Lake on Saturday. Action is slated to start at 9 a.m. CT, pending weather conditions. In addition to Kansas, the 3rd Varsity crew from Texas will also compete. Check SMUMustangs.com for a link to live results.
Last Time Out...
San Diego Crew Classic - The Mustangs finished up competition at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay on March 29. Three of its four crews advanced to finals in their respective events including the Varsity 8+ crew, which placed fifth in the Petite Final.
SMU's 2nd Varsity 8+ squad wrapped up competition on day one in the Women's Collegiate 2V 3rd Final and placed fourth with a time of 7:45.28.
The Mustang Novice 8+ crew advanced to the Novice Grand Final after a preliminary time of 7:53.65, but did not register a place due to a disqualification. SMU's final crew in action, the Varsity 4+, competed on Saturday crossing the finish line in 9:07.50 for fifth place in heat A of the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ event.
Scouting The Jayhawks...
Kansas opened the 2015 season at the Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, by posting a pair of first-place finishes and two runner-up finishes. The Jayhawks won the Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ events, while finishing second in Varsity 8+ and 3rd Varsity 8+ action. Kansas has also hosted Kansas State and Drake in an altered format scrimmage on March 28.
Last Time Versus...
During the 2014 spring season, SMU competed in Novice and Varsity 4+ events against Kansas in Kansas City. In Varsity 4 action, the Mustangs fell to Kansas and Kansas State, while the Novice 4 crew was defeated in a pair of events versus KU's novice crew.
Around The American...
Sacramento State's Varsity 8+ crew took home Boat of the Week honors following a third-place finish in the Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic. Nationally, UCF is the lone team receiving votes in the CRCA Top 20 Poll from The American. Other than the Mustangs, three conference opponents are in action this weekend with Temple, Tulsa and Villanova all hosting events. The second annual AAC Championship will be held on May 17 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey and will feature UCF, Connecticut, Sacramento State, San Diego State, SMU, Temple, Tulsa and Villanova.
White Rock Winners...
In its first event at White Rock Lake this season, the Mustangs swept Varsity 8+ events over Creighton and Central Oklahoma. In a pair of events on SMU's home course last season, the Ponies won nine total events.
Mustang Moody...
Sophomore Savannah Moody was invited to the US National Team ID Camp in Chula Vista, California, where the national body identifies possible rowers to compete on the U-23 National Team.
Moody competes in the stroke seat on the Mustangs' 1st Varsity 8+ crew. Following the 2013-14 season, she was named Second-Team All-Region by the College Rowing Coaches Association. During the fall portion of the 2014-15 schedule, Moody helped her crew to a fifth place finish at the Head of the Colorado, and a ninth place finish at the Head of the Oklahoma.
Last season, as a member of the same crew, she was part of four first-place finishes as well as three runner-up finishes. The crew posted its fastest time of the season with a 6:42.5 finish on April 26 against Central Oklahoma.
American Standout...
Junior Miranda Zsigmond, a native of Los Alamitos, California, represented SMU on the inaugural American Athletic Conference First-Team last season. Zsigmond spent the spring season as part of the Mustangs' Varsity 8+ crew, while also racing in Varsity 4+ races during the fall.
The Champ Is Here...
First-year rower Jackie Galloway earned a third-place finish at the US Open Taekwondo Championships, which took place Jan. 20-25 at the Orange County Convention Center. Galloway was also named the 2014 Female Athlete of the Year by USA Taekwondo.
In 2014, Galloway was a collegiate World Champion, Canadian and German Open Champion as well as a member of the U.S. National Team. Her success in 2013 was evident as she took National Championship honors in the United States, Costa Rica and Israel. She was also a Pan American Open Champion.
During the 2012 calendar year, Galloway was named an alternate for the London Olympics and won both Dutch and Swedish Open Championships. She also earned a bronze medal at the World Championship and US Open. In 2011, Galloway was a Pan American Games champion.
