DeChambeau Receives Division I Arnold Palmer Individual Champion Award

DALLAS (SMU/GCAA) - SMU junior Bryson DeChambeau earned the Division I Arnold Palmer National Champion Award for taking medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.
DeChambeau opened the tournament with a 2-under 70, tying him for fifth place. He stormed into the lead with a 5-under 67 on Saturday, recording five birdies and an eagle. DeChambeau sustained his lead with an even-par 72 in the third round, entering the final day at 7-under overall. DeChambeau had an eventful final round, double-bogeying the 18th hole and falling into a tie for third before going 3-under over his final seven holes to finish at 8-under par, one shot ahead of Washington's Cheng-Tsung Pan.
DeChambeau became SMU's first individual national champion, and was named a First-Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday. DeChambeau is the only First-Team All-American in the history of the SMU men's golf program.
As a team, SMU placed 14th nationally, the 11th top-15 national finish in team history.
