*As the Mustangs season gets underway, we'll take a look each week at a different SMU newcomer and find out more about their lives on and off the pitch.
DALLAS (SMU) - Incoming freshman Blair Thorpe just began her Mustang career and is already showing signs of making an offensive impact on the Hilltop for years to come.
Thorpe, a native of Frisco, Texas, joined SMU after a stellar prep career that saw her score 12 goals and tally 25 assists in her senior year at Frisco High School. At club level, Thorpe was a standout player for Sting ECNL '97, where she helped lead them to the No. 1 ranked club team in the country.
The freshman chose to attend SMU because she liked the soccer program and thought the campus was "beautiful."
Although early in her career, Thorpe said that the team has already meshed well together and it showed last Friday when the Mustangs faced Oklahoma State in a friendly.
Thorpe, a midfielder, showed off her pace and playmaking ability in her first collegiate match. The Frisco native was constantly advancing up the left wing and putting pressure on the Cowgirls defense in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Oklahoma State.
Although the freshman did not record a shot, her impact was felt throughout the entire game, as she was on the pitch for 78 total minutes, which was tied for the third most for SMU.
Off the field, Thorpe enjoys shopping, hiking, fishing and skiing. She does not know what the future holds long term for her when her playing days are up, but has had past aspirations to become a lawyer.
The Mustang midfielder's favorite professional athlete is Women's World Cup champion and United States Women's National Team member, Alex Morgan.
Thorpe plans to major in business while attending SMU.
SMU will face St. Louis on the road in their regular season opener on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Hermann Stadium.
