DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs' Lauren Guerra has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honors' Honor Roll for her play against Rice and Maryland.
Guerra tallied a goal and an assist over the two matches.
Against Rice, Guerra scored in the 24th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Claire Oates headed a ball toward the goal, and Guerra got control of the ball through traffic and put it past the goalkeeper. It was her second goal of the season.
The sophomore almost won the match for SMU when she took a shot that hit off the crossbar in the second overtime period. The Mustangs went on to tie the Owls, 1-1.
Guerra found herself at the beginning of a scoring play when SMU took on Maryland. In the 23rd minute, Guerra sent a pass down the left sideline to Lissi Lonsberry who then crossed it into the box where Paige Jacobs hit a first-time shot that went in to the back of the net.
Guerra has now earned points in three straight matches, and has two goals and one assist on the season.
Catch the Mustangs in action as they take on Sam Houston State on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Westcott Field. For tickets, go to smumustangs.com/tickets.
