Senior Advances To Finals In Both Singles and Doubles Play

Day 2 Results

DALLAS (SMU) – Mary Wright advanced to the finals in both singles and doubles play Saturday on day two of the SMU Invite. The Mustangs again registered six victories on the day with a 2-1 record in doubles, while picking up four wins in singles.

Wright got off to a fast start with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Jocelle Rudico of Air Force to advance to the final in the No. 4 singles draw tomorrow. Wright teamed up with Dasha Sharapova to advance to the finals in the No. 1 doubles draw after a close 7-6 victory against Erin Walker and Whitney Williams of Abilene Christian.

Sharapova got back in the win column in singles play after a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory against Judit Vives of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The senior will now face Marquette's Fleur Eggink in the No. 3 singles draw consolation final.

Joining Wright and Sharapova in the finals will be teammates Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki, who defeated Kansas State duo of Millie Stretton and Ana Garcia-Navas, 6-4.

In the No. 6 singles draw, Ellie Zogg remained undefeated on the weekend after a 6-1, 6-0 win against UTA's Valeria Lopez to advance to the final, while Macie Elliott won a close match against Marquette's Courtney Hebard, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the consolation bracket to advance to the final.

In doubles action, Elliott and Zogg fell to Gonzaga's Domonique Garley and Kate Ketels, 6-1, and will play for third place in the No. 2 doubles draw against Fabienne Gettwart and Carey Casey of Sam Houston State.

The tournament will conclude Sunday at 9 a.m. with the final round of both doubles and singles play.
