[rv/rv] SMU (3-0) faces [-/rv] Michigan in the championship game of the 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday at 7 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The Mustangs defeated [-/rv] Pittsburgh 76-67 in the semifinals on Thursday. SMU is going for a second straight in-season tournament title after defeating Colorado 70-66 in the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic title game.
2K CLASSIC SEMIFINALS (W, 76-67 vs. Pittsburgh): New York (AP) - Semi Ojeleye scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half and SMU defeated Pittsburgh 76-67 in the 2K Classic semifinal. Shake Milton added 14 and Ben Moore contributed 12 for SMU, who shot 57% in the second half and 48% overall. Michael Young scored 22 points for Pitt. Jamel Artis added 20 for the Panthers. Ojeleye shot 9 of 17 after going 2 of 7 in the first half when the Mustangs missed their last nine shots and trailed 33-31. SMU held a 54-45 lead when Ojeleye hit a three with about 12 minutes left. Pitt was within 63-59 following two free throws by Young with 4:52 left but SMU finished it off, starting with a dunk by Moore on the next possession. Ojeleye finished his night with a block of Young with about a minute left, followed by a transition layup.
THE SERIES VS. MICHIGAN (2-0): This is the third meeting. The Mustangs hold a 2-0 lead over the Wolverines, with a win in both Ann Arbor (62-51, 12/20/14) and Dallas (82-58, 12/8/15).
LAST MEETING VS. MICHIGAN (W, 82-58 at SMU on Dec. 8, 2015): DALLAS (AP) -- Jordan Tolbert got most of his 23 points on rim-rattling slam dunks and had nine rebounds as No. 19 SMU stayed undefeated with an 82-58 victory over Michigan on Tuesday night. Nic Moore had 15 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers before assisting on consecutive dunks by Tolbert during a 13-2 run late in the first half that put the Mustangs (7-0) in total control. Tolbert had nine dunks and finished 11-of-12 shooting.
