
Select Mustangs Set For AT&T Winter Nationals

DALLAS (SMU) – Four Mustangs will represent the SMU women's swimming and diving program at USA Swimming's AT&T Winter National Championships at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center Thursday-Saturday. Seniors Anna Cheesbrough, Vicky Cunningham, Tara-Lynn Nicholas and Hannah Rogers will make the trip to Atlanta.
Over 400 swimmers are slated to compete at the Championships, which includes collegians and Olympians alike. A relay-only session will take place Wednesday evening, followed by prelims at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT each day, and finals beginning at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.
Cheesbrough will compete in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. She has already posted an NCAA B cut in the 200 distance, clocking a season-best 1:59.31 for the Mustangs at the Art Adamson Invitational Nov. 19. The time currently stands as the fastest in the American Athletic Conference.
Cunningham, who has a B standard in the 100-yard freestyle at 49.58, will represent SMU in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard distances. She leads the team in both the 100 and 200, and is second, behind Rogers, in the 50. On the conference level, Cunningham ranks second in the 100 and third in the 50.
All-American Nicholas will make an appearance in her specialty event, the 100-yard breaststroke. The senior's season-best, NCAA provisional standard of 1:01.65 was posted at the SMU Classic on Oct. 14, and stands second in the conference rankings. Rogers will also have a single race on her schedule, as she competes in the 50-yard freestyle. Rogers leads the team and is second in the league with a time of 23.11 this season. Â
