Night One Results | Thursday Heat Sheet
HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team opened the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship by sweeping night one relays at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
In 800-free action, Maddie Hoch, Adrienn Santa, Ursa Bezan and Vicky Cunningham led from the dive and held off a late Cincinnati comeback for a season-best, winning time of 7:12.78.
For the second-consecutive year, the Ponies took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay, doing so almost two seconds faster than East Carolina, touching in 1:38.40. Tiffany Sudarma led off the event with a 26.41 backstroke split before Tara-Lynn Nicholas posted the only sub-27 breaststroke split. Marne Erasmus clocked a 22.98 on the fly split, while her competitors were all over 24 seconds, and Hannah Rogers closed things out with a 22.12 freestyle performance.
In diving action, Lauren Lamb finished fifth in the 3-meter Consolation Final with a 217.20 to secure 13th place overall and contribute to the Mustangs' team score.
SMU has 84 points in the team standings and is currently in third place behind event-leader Connecticut (116) and Houston (103). East Carolina (82), Tulane (79) and Cincinnati (70) round out the team placements.
