HUMBLE, Texas (SMU) - In second round action at the All-American Intercollegiate, the SMU men's golf team carded a 295 (+7) and is currently in fifth place in the 16-team tournament. The Mustangs are 12-over (588) through two rounds, with 18 holes left to play. SMU is four strokes behind fourth-place Baylor (+8, 584)
"We played poorly as a team today, [with] too many mistakes on and around the greens to shoot low scores," SMU head coach Jason Enloe said. "I was hoping for a better performance from the guys, so hopefully we can regroup and have a great round tomorrow and move up a few spots. If not, we will work hard to improve where we fell short this week."
SMU junior Alex Higgs led the Mustangs on day two, carding three birdies for a second-round 71 (-1). Higgs sits tied for ninth on the leaderboard and is five strokes back from tournament leader Papito Gonzalez of Houston.
Mustangs' senior Austin Smotherman fired a second round 72 (E), tallying three birdies on the day. The Loomis, Calif., native is 2-under (142) after two days of action and tied for sixth with two others. Smotherman is four strokes behind the tournament leader Gonzalez. Ryan Burgess shot a second round 75 (+3), bringing his two day total to 148 (+4). The senior is tied for 33rd with Seth Gandy from Charlotte.
Andrew Buchanan carded a 5-over 77 and is tied for 64th, while Gray Townsend finished 7-over (77) and tied for 74th. Buchanan has carded an 11-over 155 after two days and Townsend sports a two-day 157 (+13), respectively.
