INDEPENDENCE, Minn. (SMU) – The SMU men's golf team climbed one position on the leaderboard to finish tied for 11th at the Gopher Invitational at the Windsong Farm Golf Club. The Mustangs shot a 10-over 294 in the final round.
Seniors
Alex Higgs and
Andrew Buchanan led the Mustangs on the final day, carding even rounds (71). Higgs climbed 15 positions on the leaderboard to finish the tournament tied for 19th (+5, 218), while Buchanan scaled 13 positions to finish tied for 33rd (+8,221). Buchanan carded four birdies on the day, nine in the tournament, and Higgs tallied two in the third round, with five overall.
Gray Townsend shot a 4-over 75 in the final round to finish 74th. Freshman
Jackson Markham posted the Mustangs' final counting score with a 5-over 76 to finish tied for 56th. Fellow freshman
Daniel Connolly finished tied for 37th after an 8-over 79 in round three.
Freshman
Dillon Baxter moved up three positions as an individual to finish tied for 22nd at the Gopher Individual in Maple Pines, Minn., at the Pioneer Creek Golf Course. In the final round, Baxter shot a 3-over 75 to finish 14-over (230). He carded three birdies on the day and six over three rounds.
Oklahoma won the team tournament (+8, 860) while Bjarki Petursson of Kent State won the individual event (-7, 209).
The SMU men's golf team returns to action Monday, Sept. 26 in Meadows of Dan, Va., at the Wake Forest-hosted Primland Collegiate Invitational.
