Day 1 Results

NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) – SMU women's tennis wrapped up day one of the Oklahoma Fall Invitational Friday afternoon in Norman, Okla.
 
Sophomore Liza Buss and senior Macie Elliott advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draws.
 
Buss defeated Oklahoma's Malene Stripp, 6-4, 6-2 in Flight 1, while Elliot picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Haruka Sasaki of North Texas in Flight 2.
 
In doubles action, seniors Mary Wright and Dasha Sharapova also advanced after recording a 7-6 (6) victory against Texas Tech's Alba Cortina-Pou and Reagan Collins. The duo fell 7-5 to Tulsa's Mahitha Dadireddy and Vera Ploner in the semifinals and will play Oklahoma's Mimi Fotopoulos and Christian Brigante for third place tomorrow.

Buss and Ana Perez-Lopez battled with Oklahoma's Serena Nash and Stripp, but fell 6-4 in Flight 1 doubles. In the consolation semifinals, the duo again lost a close match to Tulsa's Elzbieta Iwaniuk and Martina Okalova, 7-6 (6) and will face Laura Arciniegas and Alexandra Heczey of North Texas for consolation third place.

The tournament will continue Saturday at 9 a.m. with the final round of doubles followed by the singles quarterfinals.
