AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – Seven Mustangs accounted for 17 event final appearances at the Arena Pro Swim Series Austin. One of five events on the USA Swimming circuit, the women's swim team competed at the Lee & Joe Jamail Swimming Center at the University of Texas.
Junior
Matea Samardzic led the Mustangs with a trip to the Championship Final of the 400-meter individual medley. Samardzic clocked a 4:50.82, good for seventh place. She also advanced to Consolation Finals of the 100- and 200-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley. In the 200-back, she earned runner-up honors, finishing in 2:14.07, before scratching 100 back and 200 IM finals.
Vicky Cunningham qualified for a pair of Consolation Finals, including the 50- and 100-meter freestyles. Her highest placement was fourth (12th overall) in the 100 (56.89), while she finished fifth (14th overall) in the 50 (26.32).
Hannah Rogers and
Adrienn Santa also advanced to 50-free finals with Rogers finishing fourth in the C Final and Santa registering a fifth-place finish in the D Final.
Cunningham's third finals trip resulted in a 2:03.85 effort for third place in the 200-meter freestyle C Final, while Santa was also slated to compete in the 200 IM D Final, but chose to scratch.
Butterfly specialist
Anna Cheesbrough advanced to finals in both distances, finishing fourth in the Consolation Final of the 200-meter distance (2:16.93) and second in the C Final of the 100 (1:01.98).
Erin Trahan also qualified in both events posting her best performance of fourth (1:02.71) in the 100 D Final before scratching the 200 final. Trahan also posting a winning performance in the 100-meter breaststroke D Final with a time of 1:15.59.
The Ponies also picked up a finals appearance from
Agata Magner, who was third (2:19.93) in the D Final of the 200 back.
El Yellin and
Alexandra Manasso represented the Mustangs in the 800-meter freestyle finishing 29th and 31st, respectively. The event was a timed final in which Yellin finished in 9:12.09 and Manasso in 9:22.29.
SMU is back in action on Friday when the team travels to College Station, Texas, for a dual meet against Texas A&M. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT and will be streamed LIVE on the SEC Network +. Check SMUMustangs.com for Live Result information.
