Dunne Finishes Runner-Up At Trinity Forest Invitational

Oct 31

DALLAS (SMU) - Junior Brigitte Dunne called Trinity Forest "home" for SMU golf at the Payne Stewart SMU Golf Training center. She played like it, notching her second-career runner-up finish to lead the hosting Mustangs at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Dunne consistently avoided negative scores, finishing the tournament with the most pars of anyone at the tournament while leading the Mustangs in birdies with seven. At 1-over for the tournament, she finished two strokes out of the lead.

"I'm really proud of Brigitte. She played great golf all week," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We beat some teams that we needed to beat, but we had an opportunity that we didn't take advantage of to move up the board today with the weather being rough. We're the only team that's played out here with this strong north wind."

As a team, the Mustangs finished their home tournament in a tie for sixth place of 13 teams. That finish was better than three teams ranked in Golfstat.com's top-50 and tied with No. 11 Colorado.

Day three was in difficult conditions as the wind picked up with rain moving into Dallas. No team broke 300 in the final round and the individual scoring average was more than two strokes higher than the first two rounds.

The Mustangs don't compete again this calendar year, returning to action in February at the UCF Challenge.
