COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU/NCAA) – After winning the American Athletic Conference individual title two weeks ago,
Hannah Miller followed up with a school record performance at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships Friday at Watts Cross Country Course.
Miller led SMU to a fourth place finish as the Mustangs scored 148 points. No. 6 Arkansas won the meet with 35 points, followed by Texas with 93 points and Baylor with 116 points.
Miller placed seventh overall and was the Mustangs top finisher for the third consecutive meet finishing the 6-kilometer course in a time of 19 minutes, 50.7 seconds. The Invercargill, New Zealand, native crushed the school record set by Silje Fjortoft in 2011 by eight seconds.
Charlotte-Tara Murphy shaved nearly 10 seconds off her personal best time finishing 21st in a time of 20:35.8. Miller and Murphy now have the first and seventh fastest 6K times in school history. Both were named to the all-region team for the second straight year.
The other three Mustang scorers also registered personal best times.
Tess Misgen was the fourth fastest freshman in the field after finishing 35th in a time of 20:59.0.
Marlene Gomez-Islinger and
Alison Esparza placed 42nd (21:14.1) and 43rd (21:14.6), respectively.
The NCAA Championship will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9:45 a.m. CT in Louisville, Kentucky. SMU will have an opportunity to earn an at-large bid.
