HOUSTON (SMU) – Following a 2 hour, 33 minute rain delay, SMU is currently third on the leaderboard, as darkness suspended the opening round of the All-American Intercollegiate Friday. All five Mustangs reached the turn, with two playing through No. 15, before play was suspended at 6:15 CT.
SMU finished the shortened day trailing to only Houston (-9, Thru 15-18) and No. 13 Baylor (-4, 284). The Mustangs hold a two-stroke lead over the three-way tie for fourth that includes No. 1 Vanderbilt (E, 288) and No. 21 Auburn (E, Thru 15-18).
Daniel Connolly and
Gray Townsend led the Mustangs, as both finished tied for seventh at 2-under-par. Both Townsend and Connolly fired unblemished front-nines, before being stopped through holes nine and 15, respectively. Senior
Alex Higgs is even (72) through nine. He is tied for 18th.
SMU is one of 12 teams that didn't finish the first round, and will tee off at 7:30 a.m. to finish out. Round two is tentatively slated to begin at 9:45 a.m.
