COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team fell 6-1 on the road to No. 22 Texas A&m Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

The Mustangs (6-2) had their two match winning streak against the Aggies (7-3) snapped. SMU has won the last two meetings (2009, 2011), which were both in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. SMU is now 3-5 all-time against Texas A&M.

Texas A&M won the doubles point after recording victories in the No 1 and No. 3 matches. Rutuja Bhosale and Rachel Pierson defeated Liza Buss and Dasha Sharapova, 6-2, in the No. 1 slot to clinch the victory after Stefania Hristov and Macarena Olivares 6-0 win against Mary Wright and Macie Elliott in the No. 3 match. Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez did register a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 match against Domenica Gonzalez and Eva Paalma.

In singles, Sharapova tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against tina Bokhua in the No. 4 slot. However, the Aggies responded and took the lead back after No. 75 Bhosale defeated Monarrez Yesaki in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Elliott then fell to Hristov, 7-5, 6-1, in No. 6 singles to clinch the victory for the Aggies followed by Saska Gavrilovska win against Ellie Zogg, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot. In No. 3 singles, Macarena Olivares defeated Perez-Lopex, 6-4, 7-5, while Buss fell for just the second time this season after dropping a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) decision to No. 45 Rachel Pierson.

The Mustangs return home for a Sunday doubleheader against Nevada and UT Permian Basin . SMU will first face the Wolf Pack at 10 a.m. CT, followed by a match against the Falcons at 3 p.m. CT.
