DALLAS (SMU) – Freshman
Vivian Yowan won both of her points, and No.5 SMU outscored No. 2 Texas A&M, 7-3, in the hunt seat arena, but the effort fell short as the Mustangs lost 11-9 Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
The Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 UEC) opened the day with a 4-1 win in Equitation over Fences. Senior
Alexis Graves opened scoring with a 74-72 win over Rebekah Chenelle, before
Sylvia de Toledo topped Kai Devoglaer, 80-69. Yowan won her first point of the day, and clinched the discipline with an 88-86 edge over Alex Desiderio. Fellow freshman
Haley Zimmerman knocked off Haley Webster, 82-71, to round off the discipline.
In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore
Alexandra Murphy opened the discipline with a 78-74 win over Maddie Swem. Yowan topped Rachael Hake, 75-74, for her second win of the day, before
Leina King used a 77-75 win over Chenelle to clinch the discipline for SMU.
Yowan improved to 8-2 on the season following both her wins. She is 4-1 record in each discipline.
Madison Steed and
Keagan Snively each recorded wins in reining. Steed won the reining MOP after a 72.5-70.5 win over Sarah McEntire. Snively edged Jaci Marley, 70-69.
