Mustangs Tie For Eighth, Wright Ties For 10th At UCF Challenge

Complete Scoring

ORLANDO, Florida (SMU) – The No. 35 SMU women's golf team climbed seven spots on the team leaderboard to finish in a two-way tie with No. 34 Wisconsin for eighth. The Mustangs shot 2-under 286 in the final round to bring their three-day total to 5-over 869.

No. 50 Clemson and No. 14 Miami finished the event tied at 14-under 850. Clemson went on to win after the tie-breaker. Mississippi State's Chieh Jessica Peng held on to earn medalist honors, shooting an 11-under 205.

Freshman Kenzie Wright (71-70-70) led SMU posting her third top 10 finish of the season, finishing 5-under 211 after going 2-under on the final day of competition. The final total is her lowest of the season thus far. Wright posted 11 birdies over the three-day event, the sixth highest total among the 96-player field.

"Overall I think we played solid golf this weekend," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "Our theme for the tournament was to just be patient and we really finished strong in the end. We looked good, just didn't adjust as quickly to the conditions from what we're used to seeing in Dallas.

"Another top 10 finish for Kenzie was great, and Lindsey [McCurdy] played solid this weekend. Our freshmen played great with Ana Paula [Ramirez] getting her first round under par as a Mustang and Faith [Summers] playing in her first tournament since September. Katie [Page] also gave us all she had this weekend after being unable to compete on the second day."

Senior Lindsey McCurdy (70-71-72) shot even par on the final 18 holes, earning herself a top 15 finish at 3-under 213.

Sophomore Brigitte Dunne fired her low round of the tournament on Tuesday shooting a 1-over 73 to bring her final total to 9-over 225, while freshman Ana Paula Ramirez shot 1-under today, also a low for the tournament, to finish 10-over 226. Katie Page returned to competition today carding a 3-over 75.

Representing the Mustangs as an individual, freshman Faith Summers totaled a three-round 3-over 219 (72-73-74) to finish third amongst individuals.

SMU returns to action Feb. 27 & 28 for The Dickson hosted by the University of Houston in The Woodlands, Texas. Check SMUMustangs.com for ways to follow the action.
