DALLAS (SMU)— The SMU men's tennis team earned its ninth win of the season sweeping Navy 7-0 Monday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs improved to 9-3 (2-0 The American), while the Midshipmen fell to 12-11 (0-2 The American).

SMU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point to open afternoon play. Tony Russell and Ronald Slobodchikov defeated Navy's Cameron Kirkpatrick and Ian Landwehr, 6-2. The Mustangs secured the point as No. 18 Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson beat Navy's Thomas Pecor and Greg Durham, 6-2.

In singles play, all six Mustangs defeated their Navy opponents in straight sets. Markus Kerner earned SMU's second point beating Landwehr, 6-0, 6-3 on Court 4. Samm Butler took down Krishna Jana, 6-2, 6-1 on Court 3. Tony Russell gave SMU its fourth point and secured the win defeating Joshua Martin, 6-0, 6-1 on Court 6.

On Court 1, No. 50 Slobodchikov defeated Pecor, 6-2, 6-0. No. 56 Hunter Johnson beat Durham, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 2 before Arkadijs Slobodkins wrapped up the match defeating Kirkpatrick, 6-3, 7-6 on Court 5.

SMU returns to action tomorrow, hosting No. 24 Columbia at noon.
