Indian Wells, Calif. – The SMU men's tennis team dropped a tough decision to USF, 4-2, on the third day of the BNP Paribas Open Sunday afternoon.
SMU (10-6) trailed to USF (11-6) entering singles play. SMU's
Arkadijs Slobodkins and
Markus Kerner defeated USF 6-2 on Court 2. No. 18
Hunter Johnson and
Yates Johnson dropped to the Bulls 6-3 on Court 1. However,
Tony Russell and
Ronald Slobodchikov lost to USF on Court 3 giving the Bulls the first point of the afternoon.
In singles play, SMU's
Ronald Slobodchikov defeated No. 122 Alberto Barroso-Campos in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 on Court 2.
Yates Johnson beat Jakub Wojcik in a close match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. No. 56
Hunter Johnson fell to Sasha Gozun in three hard fought sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, while
Markus Kerner lost to No. 98 Peter Bertran, 6-2, 6-3. On Court 5,
Arkadijs Slobodkins fell to USF's Vadym Kalyuzhnyy in a second set tie breaker, 6-2, 7-6 (4), while
Samm Butler and Justin Roberts were unfinished on Court 3.
Next, SMU hosts No. 5 Oklahoma State Sunday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m.
