LAS VEGAS (SMU) – Senior
Andrew Buchanan led the Mustangs through the second round of play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate as he shot even par (72). As a team, SMU shot 8-over-par (296) on day two and sits in seventh place (287-296—583) on the leaderboard.
"All in all it was a good team effort today," SMU head coach
Jason Enloe said. "Maybe a few more mistakes today than desired, but I am really proud of how the guys have hung in there and responded to such an extremely difficult course and field. Hopefully we can finish strong tomorrow."
Buchanan started the day on a high note, making the turn at 1-under-par. He added birdies on the third and sixth holes to negate a bogey earlier in the round. The senior made the turn following a birdie on the ninth hole. Buchanan shot 1-over on the back nine to finish even. He is 1-under-par through two rounds (71-72—143) and tied for 14th individually.
Senior
Alex Higgs shot a second-round 73 (+1) to climb 12 positions on the leaderboard. The Overland Park, Kan., native shot an even front nine, before carding a 1-over on the back nine. He is tied for 28th overall (+3, 147).
Gray Townsend finished day two 3-over par and sits tied for 26th individually (+2, 146). After shooting 6-over through 10 holes, the junior birdied the 13th, 16th and 18th holes to finish the day.
Sophomore
Ben Baxter is tied for 32nd after shooting 4-over-par (76). Freshman
Daniel Connolly is currently tied for 49th after carding a six-over-par 78.
No. 7 Southern California (USC) leads the event at 7-under-par (569), followed by No. 10 Stanford and No. 4 Oklahoma State who are tied for second (-1, 575).
