LOS ANGELES (SMU) – The SMU Men's Tennis team (1-3) began the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles, California, with a 4-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara (1-0) at USC's Marks Stadium.

The Guachos sealed the doubles point quickly with the help of No. 44 Anders Holm/Nicolas Moreno de Alboran. The duo defeated Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky, 6-3, before the No. 2 doubles pair of Simon Freund/Joseph Rotheram defeated Charles Nettlefold and Roberto Rosales, 7-5.

At No. 3 doubles, Eladio Fabregas and Gardiner Perotti were leading in a tiebreak at 6-6 (6-4) against Joseph Guilin/Victor Krustev when the doubles point was clinched and the match was called.

SMU didn't get a chance to even the score in singles play. Charles Nettlefold and Roberto Rosales were both defeated in straight sets. Nettlefold fell to Anders Holm (6-2, 6-0) while Rosales fell to Victor Krustev (6-2, 6-2). The No. 4 singles match ended early due to injury, with Eladio Fabregas dropping the match to Joseph Guilin 6-2, 4-0.

Jan-Simon Vrbsky was ahead in No. 1 singles against No. 42-ranked Nicolas Moreno de Alboran when the match was suspended (7-6 (3), 0-2).

The Mustangs will face off against Indiana (2-2) at 10 a.m. PT/12 p.m. CT tomorrow in the consolation match at Marks Stadium. The championship match between No. 6 USC and UC Santa Barbara will follow at 2 p.m. PT/4 p.m. CT.
