DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team opened 2018 with a loss at the hands of No. 15 Missouri at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on Friday afternoon.
Jonathan Gomez was victorious in a pair of races to lead the Mustangs.
Gomez won the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.63) and 500-yard freestyle (4:30.21), and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.91). His time in the 200 fly kept him under the NCAA provisional standard of 1:47.99.
The Mustangs also turned in the top time in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close the afternoon.

Matthew Nutter,
Lucas Schenke and
Ralph Koo finished in 3:06.14 for the win.
A pair of Mustangs finished inside the top three of the 50-yard freestyle, as Koo was second (21.04) and Badsky (21.32) touched third. Koo was also third in the 100 distance with a time of 46.20.
Stefan Popov was SMU's top finisher in breaststroke events, finishing second in the 200 at 2:08.70.
