BATON ROUGE, La. (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team opened the season going 1-1 in dual action against LSU and Loyola New Orleans on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. The Mustangs defeated Loyola, who is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA Top 10 Poll, 227-40, but fell to the host Tigers, 186-101. LSU is currently receiving a vote in the CSCAA TYR Top 25 Poll.
SMU picked up victories from freshman
Ridge Livermore in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.38), who finished just ahead of teammate
Jesse Washington (1:41.46), and freshman
Connor Dalbo (2:02.37) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Livermore was also second in the 500 free (4:38.17), while Dalbo was runner up in the 100 breast (56.99).
Newcomer
Matan Segal led the Mustangs in backstroke action with second-place finishes in both the 100 (49.36) and 200 (1:47.78) distances, and was also second in the 200-yard individual medley, covering the distance in 1:54.56.
Additional runner-up performances were turning in by Washington in the 100-yard freestyle (46.54) and
Ralph Koo in the 50-yard freestyle (21.02).
In relay action, SMU placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Koo,
Matthew Nutter, Washington and
Stephen Cheng teamed up for a final time of 3:05.22.
Trey Kilbride, Dalbo,
Simon Golczyk and Koo were third in the event-opening 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:31.92.
Freshman
Parker Hardigree represented the Mustangs in diving, picking up second place points on 3 meter (296.93).
