Mustangs Host Memphis Friday; Tulane Sunday

The SMU volleyball team hosts Memphis Friday night and Tulane Sunday afternoon in Moody Coliseum. Friday's match is schedule to start at 7 p.m. The Mustangs will honor military personnel and first responders during Heroes' Night Friday against the Tigers, while Sunday will feature the last post match clinic of the season after the 1 p.m. contest against Tulane.  

ABOUT SMU
SMU is 5-0 at home in American Athletic Conference matches, including a victory against defending conference champion Wichita State. The Mustangs are 8-13 overall this season. On its last road trip, SMU suffered a 3-2 defeat at USF, the fifth five-set loss of the season and fourth on the road, and a 3-1 loss at then-No. 25 UCF, the second ranked opponent of the season. 

The Mustangs are second in the conference with 17.27 digs per set, with junior libero Montana Watts ranking third in the league and 18th in the NCAA with 5.43 per set. SMU is fourth in The American with 2.14 blocks per set. Sophomores Lexi Nordmann and Meryn Kennedy are tied for 10th in the league with 1.04 per set. 

Offensively, senior Brittany Adams leads the team with 2.90 kills per set. Freshmen Hannah Jacobs and Rachel Woulfe are both scoring more than two kills per set. Nordmann is fourth in the conference with a .307 attack percentage.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
The Tigers are 11-12 overall and 4-7 in The American. Memphis won four of its last six matches, but went 1-1 on the road during the stretch. Hannah Flowers leads the team with 3.49 kills per set, hitting .289. Kelsea Bivins adds 3.10 kills per set with a .177 attack percentage. As a team, the Tigers are outscoring opponents 12.38-12.03, but opponents are more efficient with a .211 attack percentage to a .189 hitting percentage by the Tigers.

SERIES HISTORY
SMU is 15-6 all-time against Memphis, winning seven straight before Memphis won 3-2 at home earlier this season. The Mustangs have swept five of the last seven in the series.

SCOUTING TULANE
Tulane is 19-7 overall, 7-4 in The American, winning seven straight after a 0-4 start to league play. Erika Hansel leads the team with 2.69 kills per set with a .252 attack percentage. Dayna Kern has a team-high .295 attack percentage with 2.14 kills per set. Tulane has six attackers scoring at least two kills per set, and averages 13.66 per set as a team. 

SERIES HISTORY
SMU is 13-14 all-time against Tulane. The Mustangs won the first eight matches since Tulane joined The American in 2014 before losing 3-2 in New Orleans earlier this season. The two programs first met in 2001, with Tulane winning in New Orleans. The Green Wave also won in Dallas in 2002, the only two non-conference matches in the series.
