DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team splits for mid-season invite action Nov. 15-17 as the swimmers head to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invite and divers travel to Bloomington, Indiana, for the IU Diving Invite.
Institutions with women's swimming competing at the Hawkeye Invite include Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska out of the Big Ten, Missouri State (Missouri Valley), Grand Canyon (WAC) and South Dakota (Summit).
As a team, SMU is 3-1 in dual action this season, with wins over North Texas, TCU and Iowa State.
Andrea Podmanikova and Erin Trahan lead the Mustangs with three NCAA B cuts between the duo. Podmanikova leads the conference and ranks in the NCAA top six in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes with times of 59.68 and 2:09.57, respectively. Trahan posted a 53.33 in the 100-yard butterfly, ranking 15th nationally.
SMU's 400-yard medley relay also ranks among the fastest in the nation coming in at eighth. The time was posted at the season-opening SMU Classic as Felicity Passon, Podmanikova, Trahan, Gabi Grobler registered a 3:37.81.
Grobler also had a standout performance in the double dual with TCU and Iowa State to earn American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week honors. Grobler swept her individual events with wins in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes and the 200-yard individual medley. She also helped lead the Mustangs to a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
In diving action, freshman Johanna Holloway has picked up two individual wins this season, earning the top spot on 3 meter in both of the Mustangs' double dual meets. The freshman posted a season-best 279.15 on 3 meter in the event with Houston and North Texas. Holloway earned conference diver of the week honors on Nov. 6.
Participating diving institutions include Indiana, Louisville and NC State.
