The SMU Mustangs host McNeese on Thursday. SMU defeated Lamar 79-65 on Tuesday in the first game of a four-game homestand. Senior Jarrey Foster made his season debut in the victory, scoring 11 points as SMU had five in double figures. Senior Jahmal McMurray had 18 points and a career-high nine assists in the win as the Mustangs recorded a season-high 23 assists.

Preseason All-AAC selection Jahmal McMurray is leading SMU in scoring (19.0, 3rd AAC) and is hitting 43.8 percent from 3-point range (28-64, 5th AAC). Sophomore Ethan Chargois is averaging 15.1 points (13th AAC), 7.3 rebounds (8th AAC) and 1.3 blocked shots (5th AAC). He already has his first two career double-doubles this season. Jimmy Whitt Jr. is third on the team at 12.3 points with a team-high 3.7 assists (9th AAC) and a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio while shooting 53.8 percent. Nat Dixon is adding 7.3 points and hitting a 41.4 percent from three (12-29). Freshman Feron Hunt is second on the team at 6.6 rebounds (10th AAC) to go with 6.6 points.

LAST GAME (W, 79-65 vs Lamar on Nov. 27): DALLAS (AP) -- Jahmal McMurray scored 18 points to lead five in double figures as SMU took an early lead and coasted to a 79-65 victory over Lamar on Tuesday night. McMurray, who drilled 4 of 9 from long range, finished with a career-best nine assists. Ethan Chargois added 17 points with six rebounds and four assists for SMU (4-3). Isiaha Mike had 16 points, Jarrey Foster, in his first game back since tearing an ACL in January, chipped in 11 and Feron Hunt contributed 10 points with seven boards. Lamar took an early lead before SMU took over after Chargois drilled a trey. Hunt followed with a layup and Chargois completed a 3-point play to go ahead 22-16 midway through the first half. The Mustangs finished on a 19-12 run for a 41-28 halftime advantage. Chargois got the Mustangs running again in the second half with a 3-pointer and followed with a layup to stretch SMU's lead to 50-32. Nick Garth led Lamar (3-4) with 19 points. T.J. Atwood had 14 points and nine rebounds.

THE SERIES VS. MCNEESE STATE (3-0 on court) (2-0 official +): This is the fourth meeting between SMU and McNeese. SMU officially holds a 2-0 record after the Dec. 2, 2013 win was vacated. SMU claimed the first meeting, 70-54, at the Colonial Classic in Tallahassee, Fla., on Nov 13, 2006.

LAST MEETING VS MCNEESE STATE: (W, 92-56 at SMU on Dec. 14, 2016): DALLAS (AP) -- Shake Milton scored a season-high 17 points and SMU defeated McNeese State 92-56 for the Mustangs' fourth straight win. Milton hit 4 of 5 3-point attempts, while Semi Ojeleye made 4 of 7 for 16 points. Sterling Brown had his third career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. SMU was 12 of 23 from the arc. The Mustangs (8-3), who shot 50 percent, grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds and had a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint. Kalob Ledoux had four 3-pointers and 16 points to lead McNeese (2-6), which lost its third straight. The Cowboys made 11 3-pointers.Ojeleye scored the game's first points on three 3-pointers. Milton had two 3-pointers and Ben Moore five points in an 11-0 run for a 37-7 lead with 8:49 left in the first half, which ended with SMU ahead 48-23. The Cowboys only got as close as 17 early in the second half.

UP NEXT: SMU continues its four-game homestand with Oral Roberts on Sunday at 2 p.m. and [rv/rv] TCU on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 9 p.m.. The Mustangs then play a road game at Georgetown on Dec. 15 before finishing non-conference play at home vs Cornell on Dec. 22.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his third season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 36th season as a collegiate coach, and his 14th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 217-145 (.599) [60-24 at SMU (.714), including 41-7 at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97).
The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. 2017-18 IN REVIEW: The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. Shake Milton was named All-AAC Second Team, NABC All-District Second Team and USBWA All-District. Milton was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft and is on a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. During the season, Milton was on the Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award, Lute Olson and Bob Cousy watch lists. Ethan Chargois was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team. Ben Emelogu led The American in 3-point percentage (.470). The Mustangs eventually finished 17-16 after leading scorers Jarrey Foster and Shake Milton missed February and March due to injuries.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE MUSTANGS (Current Roster): In the past few seasons, several Mustangs have played in international events or gone on international tours. Additionally, 2-time AAC Player of the Year and All-American Nic Moore helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea.

TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added six items to the trophy case after adding the 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic (12/16-12/23). In 2014-15, SMU won American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.

NBA - DRAFT: Shake Milton was selected in the second round (54th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft. He was picked by the Dallas Mavericks, then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he signed a two-way contract. SMU's Semi Ojeleye and Sterling Brown were selected in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ojeleye was selected 37th overall by the Boston Celtics and Brown was picked 46th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers (traded to Milwaukee). This was the fourth time the Mustangs had multiple picks in the NBA Draft, but the first time with multiple selections in the first two rounds. Ben Moore signed as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers and is now on a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

IRA TERRELL TO BE HONORED JAN. 12: SMU will honor the jersey of all-time great Ira Terrell during a halftime ceremony on January 12 at Moody Coliseum (versus Tulsa). Terrell wore number 32 during his basketball career from 1972-76. His jersey will join those of Mustang legends Jim Krebs, Jon Koncak and Gene Phillips in being recognized by SMU. Terrell was inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. Terrell was the 1976 Southwest Conference Player of the Year and was a three-time All-SWC first team honoree. He is the only Mustang to average a double-double for three seasons. He finished his career as the SMU leader and now ranks second all-time in rebounds (1,077). He is also sixth in scoring (1,715) and second in career scoring average (21.4 per game). In 1973-74, Terrell led the Mustangs to a tie for second in the SWC and the Collegiate Coaches Association postseason tournament. Terrell was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the third round of the 1976 NBA Draft. From 1976-78, he played for the Suns, New Orleans Jazz and Portland Trailblazers.

COACHING FOR LITERACY (CoachingForLiteracy.org): This will be the fifth straight season SMU has hosted a CFL game (Jan. 2 vs East Carolina). Jonathan Wilfong (SMU '17) and Andrew Renshaw, two then-high school seniors from Memphis, Tennessee, founded Coaching for Literacy in 2012. The premise is that a participant offers a monetary donation and, in exchange, gets to be the "Assistant Coach" during a sporting event. Proceeds raised from the event go towards funding effective literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. Coaching for Literacy partners with collegiate and professional sports teams for a unique game-day experience. --- The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. SMU hosted two CFL events in 2014-15, two in 2015-16 and one in 2016-17 and 2017-18. In 2016-17, the SMU staff wore neon green ties during a three-game stretch as part of the awareness effort from the home win against Stanford on Dec. 19 through the win a Memphis, WIlfong's home town, on Dec. 27.

WORLD-CLASS FACILITY: SMU's Crum Basketball Center has been a world-class training center since opening in 2008. The 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks used the Crum Center for their 2008, 2009 and 2010 training camps. Several other NBA teams have also used the facility while in Dallas to play the Mavericks.
