FRESNO, Calif. (SMU) – The No. 4 SMU equestrian team suffered an 8-6 loss Saturday to No. 5 Oklahoma State at Student Horse Center.
The Mustangs (6-2) opened the meet with a 2-1 victory in Horsemanship.
Haylee Schoonover posted a 75-71 win over Maddie Bender to open scoring, before
Ashley Mauney edged out Kirsten Chamberland, 71.5-71.
Michaela Dinger and Libby Collins each tallied 71.5 to tie.
In the Hunt Seat arena, the two sides rode to a 2-2 draw in Equitation on the Flat.
Vivian Yowan led off the event with a 74-71 triumph over Hannah Janson.
Nora Gray followed with a 77, topping Maggie Drych's 71, and was named MOP.
Trailing 4-3, No. 5 Oklahoma State (4-3) responded with a 2-1 win in Equitation Over Fences to tie the meet 5-5. Yowan provided SMU's lone over fences point with a 78-74 win over Abigail Brayman.
Alexandra Murphy posed an 80, but was matched by Carly Barrick for the draw.
The Cowgirls won the day's final event, reining, 3-1.
Keagan Snively topped Stephanie Helsen, 67.5-63.5, for SMU's lone reining point.
SMU hosts UT Martin on Friday, before taking on South Dakota State the following day. SMU will honor its seniors prior to Saturday's meet. Both competitions are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
