ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - In SMU's first round of golf of the spring season, sophomore
Kenzie Wright led the way with one of her best rounds of the year, firing a 1-over to sit in a tie for 12
th individually.
Wright really took advantage of scoring opportunities on par fives, grabbing birdies on three of the four on the course. Her 4.25 scoring average on par fives was the best of anyone in round one.
Freshman
Kennedy Pedigo and Sophomore
Faith Summers each delivered very solid rounds as well to sit in the top-25 individually. Both shot a 75 to finish 3-over for the round and sit in a tie for 24
th.
As a team, the Mustangs are 10
th in the 16-team field after a combined 13-over (301) first round. However, just four strokes separate SMU from the fourth-place team in a very tight field that includes seven teams in Golfstat's top-50.
Iowa State and ECU sit in the lead after 18 holes, tied at 5-over (293). Individually, ECU's Dorthea Forbrigd is at the top of the leaderboard at 3-under.
Play picks back up tomorrow with another shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. The tournament concludes with round three on Tuesday.
