Mustangs Hold Second After ACC Championship Stroke Play Day One

LIVE RESULTS

WILMINGTON, N.C. (SMU) – SMU women's golf holds a share of second place after two rounds of the 2026 ACC Women's Golf Championship.

"I'm really proud of the way our team competed today," said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason. "They showed great composure and resilience, especially when the conditions got challenging during our second 18. To put ourselves in second place heading into the final round of stroke play says a lot about this team's belief and preparation."

"We've given ourselves a great opportunity, but we know the job isn't finished," added Mason. "Tomorrow is about staying patient, trusting each other, and embracing the moment."

The 15-teams in the field are each in search of a spot in the top six at the end of round three to make the match play portion of the Championship. A spot in the top two would earn the teams a bye into the semifinals. The Mustangs shot 13-under in round one to sit alone in third place after the morning session. They were trailing the No. 1 nationally ranked Stanford Cardinal and No. 10 Duke. The Mustangs shot one under in round two to move up into a tie with Duke for second place. The Mustangs are ahead of the remaining 12 teams in the field including 8 nationally ranked programs.

Grace Jin and Celine Chen paced the Mustangs on Thursday. Jin shot a 69 followed by a 71. Her first round didn't include a bogey. She birdied six times on the day and she sits in a tie for sixth. Celine Chen shot a 68 in round one before shooting 72 in round two. She also shares sixth place with 10 birdies on the day. Jin and Chen are seven off the individual lead which will play to a champion on Friday.

Mackenzie Lee holds ninth place after carding 69 and 72. She lowered her career scoring average down to 71.54 with her rounds, already a program record. She is looking for her 25th career top 10 showing on Friday. Lee is one birdie away from 500 for her career.

Emily Odwin shot rounds of 71 and 72 on Thursday.  She sits in a tie for 14th. With a strong day two, Odwin can record her 13th top 10 finish in just 32 starts. Freshman Kirra St-Laurent posted rounds of 74 and 75 to sit in 52nd place.

On Friday, the Mustangs look to hold a spot in the top two to advance to the Saturday's semifinals. With a spot from third to sixth the Mustangs would play in the quarterfinals of match play.
