WILMINGTON, N.C. (SMU) – Battling blustery conditions all day long at the Country Club of Landfall, SMU Women's Golf vaulted up the leaderboard on day two to second with a 1-over 289 and a 6-over total of 582.
Â
South Korean native Yoonjeong Huh birdied the par-4 first hole and kept her foot on the gas all day long. Two more birdies on the front side gave the senior a 2-under 34 at the turn. An even-par back nine that featured two more birds meant Huh matched her season-best 2-under 70 and moved into a tie for third place individually.
Â
Rallying from two early bogeys, Grace Jin found two birdies to make sure she turned in even par. A consistent back nine (one birdie, one bogey) gave the senior a stout even-par 72 amongst adverse conditions.
Â
Like Huh, Chen made quick work of the opening hole to quickly dip under par. Despite two bogeys on the front side, Chen closed with birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 to finish to match Jin's 72.
Â
Kirra St-Laurent had to wait until the 11th hole for her first birdie of the day. The sophomore would grab a second on the par-4 15th hole as well. Along with four bogeys, St-Laurent posted a very respectable 74 in tough conditions.
Â
An up-and-down day for Maelynn Kim featured four circles on her scorecard. Three double-bogeys, however, kept Kim from another solid round. She would finish at 5-over 77.
