WILMINGTON, N.C. (SMU) – Senior Celine Chen registered SMU's first eagle of the season as SMU Women's Golf pieced together a 5-over 293 to sit fifth after the first day of the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Â
Sophomore Kirra St-Laurent wasted little time getting off to a hot start in Wilmington. Two birdies in her first three holes put her on the right path for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. Two more circles on the back nine, coupled with five bogeys throughout the day, gave St-Laurent a 1-over 73.
Â
Yoonjeong Huh matched St-Laurent's 1-over with one of her own. Huh showed some true resiliency, bouncing back from two front-nine doubles. The South Korean managed three birdies in her final 13 holes to just one bogey to slide in at 73.
Â
Texas native Maelynn Kim was squeaky clean through her first nine holes. After a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole, Kim was 1-under making the turn. Despite a double on 10, Kim rallied with two more birdies, including one on the final hole of the day to join the group at 1-over 73.
Â
Nobody made more noise on No. 18 than Celine Chen. Chen was 4-over on the day stepping to the 18th tee box. The Australian needed just three shots on the par five to collect the first eagle of the season for the Mustangs and finish at 2-over 74.
Â
Grace Jin matched Chen's 74 on Friday. Jin avoided the big number as her round including birdies on No. 7 and No. 12 to go with four bogeys.
