SAN MARCOS and AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – After three days of competition at four meets, the Mustangs wrapped up the weekend Saturday with personal records and top performances at the Bobcat Invitational and the Texas Relays.
Latessa Johnson qualified for today's 100-meter dash finals with a personal-best 11.34 in yesterday's preliminary heats at the Texas Relays. Today, she outdid herself once again, finishing eighth overall in 11.25. Her time currently tops the American Athletic Conference outdoor performance list and ties for 11
th in the NCAA.
Thrower
Tochi Nlemchi earned a second-place finish in shot put at Texas Relays with a throw of 16.71m (54-10.00), just six-tenths of a meter from her personal best in the event.
Freshman
Tess Misgen represented SMU in distance events at the meet, finishing 13
th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:42.57.
Led by junior
Madison Pyle's win in the 800-meter, the Mustangs also earned impressive finishes at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas. Pyle ran the event in 2:12.60, shaving nearly ten seconds from her previous outdoor PR of 2:22.05 to earn her first collegiate win.
Pyle was in record-breaking company on the track.
Alexis Center raced a 23.99 in the 200-meter dash, improving on her previous personal best of 24.66.
In field events,
Atipa Mabonga placed ninth for the Mustangs in triple jump with a mark of 11.98 while
Daniella Murchison earned sixth in the shot put with a toss of 13.63m.
SMU
finished up competition at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational on Friday.
The Mustangs will train for one week before heading to the UIW Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on April 13-14.
