DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Men's Tennis team fell just short of quarterfinal berth in the American Athletic Conference Championships by falling 4-3 to No. 9 Temple Thursday at the Crum Tennis Courts on the SMU campus.
 
The Mustangs rallied to claim the doubles point for the 13^th time this spring, earning wins from the top and bottom of the lineup. Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Tomas Vaise partnered for a 6-2 win at the top position. After the Owls claimed No. 2 doubles, Gardiner Perotti and Eladio Fabregas earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the point.
 
In single splay, Vrbsky continued to impress with a straight set win at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3). However the Mustangs dropped matches at No. 6 and No. 3 to allow Temple to even the score at two apiece.
 
Roberto Rosales broke the tie with a close 6-3, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5, his 11^th of his freshman season. But SMU couldn't hold on, dropping No. 4 and No. 1 singles to surrender the match.
 
SMU finishes the season with a 9-18 record, 0-6 in the American Athletic Conference.
