DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Men's Tennis team fell just short of quarterfinal berth in the American Athletic Conference Championships by falling 4-3 to No. 9 Temple Thursday at the Crum Tennis Courts on the SMU campus.
The Mustangs rallied to claim the doubles point for the 13
th time this spring, earning wins from the top and bottom of the lineup.
Jan-Simon Vrbsky and
Tomas Vaise partnered for a 6-2 win at the top position. After the Owls claimed No. 2 doubles,
Gardiner Perotti and
Eladio Fabregas earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the point.
In single splay, Vrbsky continued to impress with a straight set win at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3). However the Mustangs dropped matches at No. 6 and No. 3 to allow Temple to even the score at two apiece.
Roberto Rosales broke the tie with a close 6-3, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5, his 11
th of his freshman season. But SMU couldn't hold on, dropping No. 4 and No. 1 singles to surrender the match.
SMU finishes the season with a 9-18 record, 0-6 in the American Athletic Conference.
