TORRANCE, Calif. (SMU) – Three Mustangs closed out the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday with impressive finishes in the invitational sections of three events.
Up against top NCAA and professional athletes,
Latessa Johnson earned a podium finish in her 200-meter section. The junior finished in second-place out of 11 competitors with a time of 22.92 in her first 200-meter race of the season.
Johnson hit the track again for the 100-meter invitational, joined this time by sprints teammate
Chelsea Francis. The duo finished ninth and 12
th, respectively. Johnson finished in 11.43, while Francis finished in 11.56.
Johnson's time sits atop the American Conference 100-meter performance list and ranks tied for 15th in the NCAA.
Tochi Nlemchi rounded out the elite sections for the Mustangs with her fourth top-three finish in the shot put of the season. The senior took third place with a throw of 16.41m (53-10.25).
With another successful outdoor meet completed, SMU looks ahead to next weekend's Bobcat Classic hosted by Texas State.
