LONG BEACH, Calif. (SMU) – Freshman Atipa Mabonga found her stride on Thursday, winning her first collegiate triple jump at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State. The jump of 12.48m marked a season best for Mabonga.
SMU's field athletes continued their successes, with Tochi Nlemchi setting a PR in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.94m. The mark tops her previous personal best of 50.53m, set at this season's Bobcat Invitational, by more than two meters.
At the next day's Beach Invitational, also held at the Jack Rose Track, Robin Montemayor and Julie Jungblut collected top-10 finishes in two events. Montemayor ran her first collegiate 10,000-meters, placing 10th in 39:53.68. Jungblut followed up her 5,000-meter performance at the Texas Relays with a fifth-place finish in 18:00.21.
A handful of Mustangs will finish Saturday's events at the Mt. SAC Relays, and the team will compete in next weekend's Bobcat Classic from April 27-28 at Texas State.
