SMU center
Evan Brown and defensive end
Mason Gentry have been signed as free agents by their respective NFL teams. Brown joins the New York Giants, while Gentry heads south to join the Houston Texans.
Wide receiverÂ
Courtland Sutton was chosen by the Denver Broncos as the eighth pick in the second round and joins former SMU standout Emmanuel Sanders in Denver. Sutton became the first Mustang drafted since 2014 when Kenneth Acker and Garrett Gilbert went in the sixth round. He was also the first second round pick since Margus Hunt was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013. He is the highest-drafted Mustang at No. 40 overall since Rod Jones and Reggie Dupard were selected 25th and 26th, respectively, in 1986.
Defensive endÂ
Justin Lawler and wide receiverÂ
Trey Quinn were selected in the seventh round. Lawler was chosen as the 26th pick in the round by the Los Angeles Rams, while Quinn went to the Washington Redskins as the draft's final pick.
The last time the Mustangs had multiple players selected in the draft was 2014 when Kenneth Acker went to the San Francisco 49ers and Garrett Gilbert to the then-St. Louis Rams. The three selections were the most since 2012 when Josh LeRibeus (Washington Redskins), Taylor Thompson (Tennessee Titans), Richard Crawford (Washington Redskins) and Kelvin Beachum (Pittsburgh Steelers) were chosen.
