Mustangs Host Free Youth Football Clinic

May 7

Dallas (SMU) -- The SMU football team welcomed more than 350 Dallas youth to Kincaide Stadium to enjoy a morning of football and fun on Saturday.

The SMU coaching staff and members of the team ran participants through drills, while a DJ was on hand and food trucks provided lunch for all in attendance. The free youth clinic was the second since Head Coach Sonny Dykes came to SMU in December, and kicks off a summer of camps on the Hilltop.

Summer skills camps begin June 2 at SMU and range in ages from third through eighth grade, as well as ninth grade and up. Camp information can be found at here.

The Sonny Dykes Football Camps are designed to provide younger players with a solid foundation of the fundamentals of the game. The camp is run by the SMU coaching staff. Camps are non-contact and provide a fun learning experience for all campers. These camps are designed to improve a player's beginning, intermediate and advanced skill levels. Fundamentals of all positions on offense and defense are taught in addition to life skills such as respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, teamwork and the importance of education. Participants are grouped based on age and skill level.
