DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU Men's Soccer team improved to 3-3-1 after toppling Gonzaga 2-0 on Sunday afternoon behind goals from senior
Emil Cuello and junior
DJ Williams Jr.
The Mustangs offense set a season-high mark of 10 shots on goal, five of them coming in the first half, and tallied the squad's second multi goal game of the season.
Cuello's goal, the second of the season and ninth of his career, uncorked the scoring for SMU in the 68
th minute after taking an entry pass from
Nicky Hernandez and juking his defender one-on-one near the left side of the six-yard box. With eight points and two scores on the year, Cuello is two points away and one goal away from tying his single-season career mark in both categories. Hernandez helper was his second for the 2018-19 campaign.
Williams' tally, coming in the 87
th minute, was his second of the weekend and he has now tied his personal single-season scoring record at two. Cuello and
Talen Maples set up the goal on a give-and-go that Williams put home past the keeper's right side.
The Mustangs recorded seven corner kicks, 21 shots on goal and the best shooting percentage of the season with a mark of .095 percent.
