DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU Men's Soccer team topped Tulsa 1-0 to open American Athletic Conference play with a win for the first time since 2015.
Freshman
Lane Warrington netted the contest's lone goal, a strike from just outside the left corner of the goal box that went just past the keeper's gloves, at the 3-minue mark of the opening half on a pass from
Nicky Hernandez. Warrington, a native of Lawton, Oklahoma, is the second Mustang to notch the first goal of his collegiate career this season and it was Hernandez' third helper of the year.
Tulsa's offense pressured SMU's defense for the rest of the game, but the Mustangs' defense stood strong, only allowing five total shots for the rest of the game, helping keeper
Grant Makela complete his fourth shutout of the 2018-2019 campaign.
The match, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. yesterday, was rescheduled for today at 10 a.m. after lighting ruled the first go a no contest. The match was also played at the Crum Lacrosse and Sports Field, an unusual venue for the Mustangs.
