DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's tennis hosts No. 17 Texas Tech to open the dual match season on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The match will be played inside the Brookshire Family Pavilion at the SMU Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs opened the spring by hosting Metroplex Mania where they won 21 singles and 10 doubles matches from Jan. 11-14 against opponents from Iowa, BYU, Northern Arizona and Northwestern State.
SMU competed in seven tournaments in the fall, highlighted by senior
Vivienne Kulicke claiming the title in the No. 3 singles flight at the SMU Invitational on Oct. 7. Kulicke continued her strong form into the spring, winning all three of her singles matches at Metroplex Mania. She carries a team-best 11-3 record into the dual season.
Kulicke is one of five seniors that anchor the Mustangs' roster, joining
Ana Perez-Lopez (9-6),
Liza Buss (8-5),
Karina Traxler (7-7) and
Anzhelika Shapovalova (2-0). Traxler leads the Mustangs with nine doubles wins this season.
SMU holds a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series with Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders have won the last three matches. The last meeting came on Feb. 1, 2014 with Texas Tech winning 5-2 in Dallas.
After facing Texas Tech, SMU travels to Norman, Oklahoma to play Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m.
