NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) – For the second time in three days, SMU women's tennis battled tough with a Big 12 opponent but ultimately fell by a score of 4-3. The Mustangs (0-2) won three singles matches, but lost to Oklahoma (1-0) at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Karina Traxler and junior Tiffany Hollebeck won their fourth doubles match in a row, beating Oleksandra Korashvili and Skyler Miller 6-3 at the No. 3 position. The duo is a team-best 5-1 this season, while Traxler leads the Mustangs with 11 doubles victories this year. The Sooners won doubles matches on Courts 1 and 2 to claim the first point of the match.

Senior Anzhelika Shapovalova continued her hot start to the spring, beating Ivana Corley 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and tying the match at 1-1. Shapovalova did not play in the fall, but has a 4-0 singles record this spring. After an Oklahoma victory on Court 1, sophomore Nicole Petchey evened the match once again with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Miller at No. 6 singles.

The Sooners clinched the match with wins on Courts 3 and 4, but senior Vivienne Kulicke closed the dual with a win over Korashvili at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-4. Kulicke holds a team-best 12-4 singles record this season.

The Mustangs are back in action next weekend in Palo Alto, Calif., when they face Washington State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the ITA Kick-Off hosted by Stanford. Depending on the results of Saturday's matches, SMU will play either Stanford or St. Mary's on Sunday.
