SMU Goes Down In Five Sets To Tulane; Hosts Houston Sunday For Senior Day

Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team lost in five sets to Tulane in Moody Coliseum Friday night (25-20, 25-21, 15-25, 17-25, 12-15). With the loss, SMU dropped to 17-8 overall and 10-5 in the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs are tied for first in the west division with Tulane and Houston.

SMU plays Houston Sunday at 1 p.m. The Mustangs can still secure a bye in the conference tournament with a win against the Cougars and a Tulane loss at Memphis Sunday.
Montana Watts recorded a career-high 39 digs, tied for second in a match all-time at SMU, and the Mustangs finished with 104 as a team. The defense also tallied eight blocks, but the offense hit just .142 with 61 kills and 33 errors.

The Green Wave complete the comeback in the fifth set with a 15-12 win. Tulane took a 5-2 lead, but SMU came back to tie the score, 7-7, with a kill by Lily Heim. The Mustangs were never able to take the lead, with Tulane scoring the next three points, all on errors by SMU.  

The Mustangs won the first two sets, but a 10-point win in the third and an eight-point win in the fourth set Tulane up for the comeback win in the fifth.

Heim tallied 50 assists. Hannah Jacobs led SMU with 14 kills, and Rachel Woulfe scored 13. Kendall Patterson had 19 digs, and Kaylyn Winkler had four blocks.
