DALLAS (SMU) – Petar Bozhilov swept distance freestyle events on Saturday afternoon to lead the SMU men's swimming and diving team in dual action against LSU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. The Mustangs fell to the Tigers, 168.50-131.50.
It came down to the touch, but Bozhilov was victorious in the 1,000 free, finishing just one-tenth faster than his LSU competition at 9:33.28. Teammate
Joe Carson was third in the event in a time of 9:40.48. In the 500, Bozhilov covered the distance in 4:36.89 for the win.
In diving action,
Peter Smithson and
Parker Hardigree teamed up for the sweep, both posting career-best, NCAA Zone qualifying scores. Smithson won 1 meter (340.95), while Hardigree (362.85) was the leader on 3 meter.
Daniel Forndal,
Caleb Rhodenbaugh and
Ralph Koo all picked up a pair of runner-up finishes for the Mustangs. Forndal was SMU's top finisher in the 100 and 200 free, Rhodenbaugh was the fastest Mustang breaststroker and Koo picked up second place points in the 50 free and 100 fly.
Stephen Cheng and
Matan Segal continue to lead SMU in backstroke events with Cheng finishing second in the 200 and Segal in the 100, and
Colin Feehery finished second in the 400 IM.
Relay action saw the Mustangs finish second in both the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
SMU is back in action Nov. 21-23 for the SMU Invitational.
